Erwin Szela, MD, FACOG, MIGS, MBA
My Biography
Dr. Erwin Szela is a board-certified OB/GYN and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Dr. Szela has spent most of his life in the Chicago area. He received his bachelor of science in mathematical engineering from Northwestern and an MBA from Kellogg at Northwestern. He completed medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago followed by residency training at Northwestern University/Prentice Woman’s Hospital, where he was promoted to chief resident.
He has extensive training in minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures. Dr. Szela has performed more than 1,000 advanced robotic-assisted surgeries. He enjoys all aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, including women’s wellness, high-risk obstetrics, infertility, and surgery.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Szela has been committed to accessible and affordable healthcare for women. He has been on multiple medical missions to the Dominican Republic and Ghana, West Africa. Dr. Szela has been providing care through federally qualified health centers (FQHC) for more than 14 years. He is a past president of the Northwest Suburban Independent Physicians Association and was instrumental in creating the clinically integrated network with AMITA.
When Dr. Szela isn’t at work, he loves spending time with his wife of 34 years and his family.
