Medication Refills
How to Request a Medication Refill
Prescription and refill requests for established Women's HealthFirst patients are handled during regular office hours. The fastest way to reach us is by calling (847) 808-8884, our main phone line. You can also send a message directly through your patient portal account.
Refills are generally processed during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. They are not routinely issued during evenings, weekends, or holidays, as your provider may not have access to your complete medical records outside of those hours. Therefore, planning and submitting your request before you run out helps avoid any gap in your medication.
Before You Submit Your OB/GYN Refill Request
A few things that will help your refill request go smoothly:
Please Allow Up to 72 Hours
Please submit your refill request at least 72 hours before you run out of medication. This gives our team adequate time to review your request, confirm your records are current, and send the prescription to your pharmacy.
Controlled Substances Are Reviewed Differently
Requests for narcotic and controlled substance refills are reviewed directly by your primary physician and are not processed on evenings, weekends, or holidays. If you take a controlled substance, plan accordingly and submit your request well in advance.
Over-the-Counter Medications
If a medication is available without a prescription, we will not issue a written prescription for it. Your provider may recommend an over-the-counter alternative and provide guidance on appropriate use.
Established Patients Only
Prescription refills are available to established patients of Women's HealthFirst. If you are a new patient who needs a prescription, your first step is scheduling an appointment with one of our providers.
Need a Birth Control Refill From Your OB/GYN?
If you’re an established patient and need a birth control pill refill, your pharmacy can fax a refill request directly to our office. This is the quickest way to get your refill processed.
Two requirements to use this process:
- You have a current Pap smear on file, or your annual exam is already scheduled.
- You are an established patient of Women's HealthFirst.
Pharmacy Fax Number: (847) 808-8890
Please note: This is not considered an emergency request. Standard 72-hour processing applies.
